Burren celebrate with the trophy.

Down Minor Champions Burren claimed the Ulster Minor Title beating Derry Champions Kilrea at St.Paul’s on New Years Day.

The game got off to a frantic start with both sides level on a goal a piece after six minutes before the Mourne Men would kick the next to points only to be pegged back by another Kilrea goal putting the Derry men one up twelve minutes.

Burren rallied in reply hitting 1-2 in reply with Murdock spearheading the attack. Further scores from Kielt and Quigg where cancelled out as the Burren men hit the net for a third time before half time to lead by 5 at the break.

The Derry men opened the second half with a score cutting the gap to four but the Down men strengthened their hold on the game as McCartan and Murdock pointed.

The lead was six when the South Derry men hit the net themselves for the third time putting just a single kick in the game but they could only muster up one more score in the remainder of the half as Burren hit the net with the last score of the game to ensure they would be taking the trophy home.

Final Score; Burren 4-8 Kilrea 3-5
