Tyrone Minor and U’17 star Darragh Canavan is out to make a name of his own after the expected comparisons with father, Peter due to their scoring prowess and importance to their teams.
Darragh was instrumental to his county winning the inaugural Under 17 All Ireland Title in Croke Park last month. The Errigal Ciaran club man notched up an impressive personal tally of 1-3 in the final scoring a rocket of a goal which lit up social media.
Canavan led his school St.Ciaran’s, Ballygawley to MacLarnon Cup glory in March and despite the unavoidable comparisons with his father he is not a fan of such praise.
“I don’t remember much about my dad’s career as I was too young at the time but I have heard a lot about his deeds,” the Errigal Ciaran youngster remarked.
“However, that doesn’t put any pressure on me to live up to what he did. I will never be my dad, I’m my own person and I want to set my own standards.”
His performances have not gone unnoticed picking up the Ulster Writers Merit Award for the month of August.
