Darren Hughes may miss the championship in 2017 as the Monaghan man has been sidelined for 12 weeks with torn medial ligaments.
The Irish News reports that the Monaghan midfielder got injured playing for his club Scotstown on the weekend.
Hughes was reported to being in Santry at the sports surgery clinc
Hughes visited the sports surgery clinic in Santry to reveal the extent of his injury and will have t undergo surgery if he doesn’t get the required response which would rule him out for the year.
“It’s not the cruciate so I suppose that’s kind of a bonus,” he told the Irish News.
“At the minute I don’t need surgery – they were afraid of a full rupture but they don’t think it is so. I’ve just to look after it and hopefully it’ll heal well.
“I’ve been told to do nothing for the next two to three weeks – it all depends how it settles. If it doesn’t do anything in the next four [weeks] it could be an operation.”
We wish him the best of luck on the road to recovery and would love to see him back this year playing.
